Profile Summary

His Excellency Kojo Choi (born Choi SungUp) first came to Ghana in 1992, accompanying his  parents who arrived from South Korea as Presbyterian missionaries. From a young age, he participated in mission trips across Ghana, particularly in remote and underserved communities. These early experiences shaped his values of humility, service, and cross-cultural understanding—principles that continue to guide his public service and leadership.

In 2015, after decades of dedicated contribution to Ghana’s social and economic landscape, he became a naturalized citizen of Ghana, having first applied for citizenship in 1999.

Ambassador Kojo brings over two decades of entrepreneurial and executive leadership experience spanning telecommunications, fintech, advertising, marketing, hospitality, natural health, and education. He has founded and chaired several successful enterprises, including Nanatel, Ultracom, PaySwitch, One Heart Africa Academy, Art Africa Foundation, and Village Welfare Foundation. He has also served on the boards of Xist Investment, Sanaa Africa Foundation (Kenya), and Kumi University (Uganda).

His innovative leadership and contributions to the African business ecosystem have earned him recognition among Ghana’s most influential figures in fintech and entrepreneurship. He has been a featured speaker at major international platforms such as the Ghana CEOSummit, Korea-Africa Business Summit, Digital Business Summit, United Web Summit, and Ishmael Yamson Round Table.

Ambassador Kojo is also deeply engaged in philanthropy and humanitarian initiatives. He regularly leads mission outreach programs focused on youth empowerment, education, and rural development. His commitment to national representation was notably reflected in his instrumental role in supporting Ghana’s participation in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, where he served as Deputy Head of Mission, sponsoring Ghana’s sole athlete and assisting the Ghana Olympic Committee with international affiliation obligations.

Before his ambassadorial appointment, he also contributed to Ghana–Korea relations by serving as a Korean interpreter / facilitator for Ghana’s Presidents—H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and H.E. John Dramani Mahama—facilitating high-level bilateral engagements.

Appointed in 2025 by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, Ambassador Kojo Choi stands as a symbol of unity, faith, and purpose between Ghana and South Korea. His unique journey—from missionary kid (MK) to entrepreneur, philanthropist, and now diplomat—embodies a life devoted to service, innovation, and the strengthening of global partnerships for Africa’s advancement.
